Many people consider that losing weight through weight training won't help because this way they gain muscle mass, therefore more weight. This depends on the training you do actually and while training to build up strength, there are many other benefits of this exercise. This is simply a myth, saying that weight training will put more weight, instead of remove it.
Weight training puts your body to work, building it up and getting it in shape. One of the great advantages of strength training is that it tones the body.
If done properly, weight training will tone your body, giving it a nice, healthy shape. Not only that you'll look and feel healthier, but you'll also lose those extra flabby bits that are not supposed to stay there.
Building more muscle mass will burn more calories. It goes like this: the more muscles you have, the more calories you burn because muscles are the defense machanism against calories and burning fat. Therefore, the more muscles, the easier to burn calories.
This also means that losing weight becomes easier and takes less time. This does not mean you have to turn into a body builder if you don't want to. The purpose of the weight training is to tone your body.
You will become a lot fitter and you'll be able do exercise easier, and do a lot of things a lot easier. Reaching for glasses in the kitchen, getting out of bed, tying your shoe laces, everything will be easier and you won't get tired as fast as you did before. Your overall looks will improve and you will feel happier with the changes. Most probably, your sex life will benefit a lot; remember what I said about more fit and not getting tired as fast as you did? Think about it.
You won't injure yourself as easily because your muscles are now toned, firmer and less likely to brake. Moreover, all this exercise removes the fatigue sensation and overall stiffness in your body. Try a massage every now and then after your workout or go swimming and you'll feel reborn. This kind of feeling becomes an addiction and it's probably the only positive addiction a person could have. All the other ones are usually bad for you.
The main goal is to stay fit, tone your body and remember to work different parts of your body.
Even if some exercises are easier for you to do or more fun, remember to work as many muscles in your body as you can. Work groups of muscles, combine them, combine weight training with other kind of exercising, etc. The more types of exercising you do, the better.
