I drink too much coffee lately and I don't seem to get by easily without it. It really started easy with an occasional cup with my colleagues, but in 4 months (that's how much it's been since that day 1) I seem to have some sort of addiction to it. Usually when you say cup you sort of think about a nice small tea-cup that grandma used to put your tea in when you were little, but no... my term is mug. I drink 2-3 coffee mugs a day, which is not bad... YET! If I do the math, I drink coffee (lots and lots of it) and also Coke.
The effects are starting to hit me in the crotch so to say and let me tell you why. I felt it myself... I first started drinking a cup in the morning and we were best friends, the coffee and me. I felt revigorated, the flavor was nice and it gave me the feeling of being fresh and somewhat more organized. Then I started craving for more of that nice flavor during the lunch and getting more and more. I started sleeping less and getting more tired every day. I couldn't wait for the week-end to GET SOME SLEEP. At this point I give up drinking coffee as I was doing just fine before I started drinking it.

Coffee can be so addictive...
that it can give you the shakes if you don't get your "fix". The effects are obviously less dramatic than the ones of crack or I don't know what other drug, but depending so much on a substance is not normal. We're addicted to water and food, but our lives depend on them, they give us energy and keep our bodies healthy. The moment we depend on drugs or some other weird substances, we really have to pay attention to that alarm signal our bodies trigger.
My solution to this problem is to drink tea; good, hot, lemon flavored tea. And I'll tell you what more I'll do... I just bought 2 kilos of fresh lemon that I will turn into lemonade. My solution to eliminate my coffee craving is tea and lemonade. I bet if you drink a cup of hot tea, you'll be as satisfied as if you've just have a cup of coffee. The lemon is |

both for eliminating the coffee craving and to take me back to my childhood when after I played soccer, my mom would get the lemonade from the fridge and pour me a glass.
I'm not saying you should give up drinking coffee, that's my decision alone, but drink moderately. Caffeine can drain your energy and so can sugar. Instead of going for a Snickers or having a soda with your lunch, gave an apple or some other fruit that will give you a boost. Sugar can kick it up a notch, but you'll be a lot more tired when the energy it provided is gone.
Buy a juicer!
You'll be thanking that guy on the Internet when you'll see how good juice is compared to coffee. Why? Because juice is 100% natural when you make it. You buy the peaches and you prepare it, thus 100% natural. How many vitamins do you think coffee brings into your system? None! Not only it does not nourish your body, but coffee destroys vitamins. And not only coffee... Raw fish and shell fish contain thiamineases as well, the substance that destroys vitamins.
The conclusion of my idea is not to give up coffee completely - that is my choice - but to drink with moderation. Coffee is not bad, but in large quantities it can do harm. And so can happen with a lot more other substances... sugar, fat, alcohol, etc. They're good in small quantities. |
