Report cards in Seminol County, Florida were printed with this huge McDonald's advertisment that says: "Reward yourself with a Happy Meal from McDonald's!" This appears on the grade cards even though the agreement was not to advertise to kids under 12 or limit them to food that meets certain nutritional requirements.
Pizza Hut was supposed to be the district partner in education rewarding, but when they decided to step aside for the year 2007-2008, McDonald's took advantage of the opportunity.
Their spokesman said they do not advertise, but they support and reward good scholar activities. This includes food prizes for all A's and B's, attendence and citizenship.
Moreover, McDonald's evp of the food service consultancy, Darrin Tristiano, pontis out that they made lots of efforts to incorporate apple slices, milk and premium chicken into the Happy Meals they have to offer. "Most people are happy to get a free Happy Meal for their kids because they go there anyway."
